A blast from the past
I was brought up with Instamatic and Poleroid cameras so when colour and digital photography became the way forward I really enjoyed the easiness of taking pictures and forgot about the ‘old fashioned’ way things were. Recently with the introduction of Apple and it’s Aps I have discovered ‘Hipstamatic” , ‘Snapseed ‘and several other applications which allow one to ‘doctor’ and fiddle photos with amazing effects.
On a recent trip to London I discovered a store called Lomography.
(http://www.lomography.com) This is photography using a Lomo Kompakt Automat camera, a small, enigmatic Russian Camera which ignites a new style of artistic experimental photography where everything is amplified, making ordinary objects stand out, enhancing details that would normally go unnoticed. The vignettes that frame the shot, light leaks and lo-fi grain with beautiful blurs create a magical balance of contrast and saturation. This is a real embrace of the surprise with every shot taken. it is really worth a try and I must say, rather addictive. Look at some of my results.
